Art Campus: A Creative Oasis at the Heart of Near East Campus
GÜNSEL’s headquarters and R&D facilities are surrounded by monumental sculptures displayed in the open air, reflecting our deep connection with art. These monuments not only symbolize the spirit of freedom, creativity, and respect for the environment represented by our 100% electric GÜNSEL vehicles but also showcase our commitment to art.
In addition to the iconic sculptures representing GÜNSEL, the Near East University campus, which resembles an open-air museum, houses more than 150 monumental sculptures. The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, the Cyprus Car Museum, the Cyprus Herbarium and Natural History Museum, as well as various exhibition halls located throughout the campus, come together to form a comprehensive cultural and artistic universe.
Our Collection
Right across from the GÜNSEL headquarters, you’ll find the Freedom Monument in the green area, featuring nine horses running side by side. This monument is quite special due to the meanings it represents. Composed of horses freely running in nature, the monument symbolizes liberty and creativity, while also highlighting GÜNSEL’s respect for the environment as a 100% electric vehicle manufacturer. The fact that there are nine horses is no coincidence; this number is considered lucky by the family and is also featured in the GÜNSEL logo.
The Technology Hunter Monument is another statue surrounding GÜNSEL. Depicting a historical figure holding a spear, the monument represents GÜNSEL’s pursuit of future technologies. The presence of a historical human figure in the composition of the monument emphasizes the power of science and technology in progress and development, conveying the message, “you cannot build the future without producing technology.”
In front of the Near East University Innovation and Information Technologies Research Center, where GÜNSEL’s foundations were laid, stands the GÜNSEL Monument. This three-dimensional composition features three female figures holding the GÜNSEL logo up high, symbolizing the brand’s journey into the future.
GÜNSEL represents the future of the automotive world, while the Cyprus Car Museum, located within the campus and open to visitors every day, showcases the development and history of the modern world through the transformation of automobiles. With a rich collection of over 150 classic cars on display, the museum’s oldest vehicle is the 1901 Crest Mobile model. This unique vehicle, along with cars from every era spanning a century from the early 1900s to the 2000s, takes visitors on a journey through time.
The 1901 Model Crestmobil, 1903 Wolseley, and 1909 Buick are just a few of the classic cars featured, along with legendary sports cars such as the first production car to break the 300 km/h speed barrier – Jaguar, the Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster, and the Dodge Viper SRT10 Final Edition. The museum’s model car collection also attracts attention, adding another layer of interest for visitors.
The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts is a significant component of the Art Campus, with a collection of over 50,000 art pieces making it not only the largest contemporary art museum in Cyprus but also in the region. Open every day of the week except Monday, the museum boasts a rich collection of paintings and sculptures from artists belonging to 14 Turkish communities. The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, which hosts works from nearly 3,000 artists, presents a wide range of artworks to art enthusiasts.
The Cyprus Herbarium and Natural History Museum brings together the island’s diverse history under one roof, showcasing 11,000 different plant specimens, various fungi, insect species, reptile species, marine life, fossils, and rocks. The museum features 106 types of fungi belonging to three different groups, 250 species of algae, 23 reptile samples, insect collections belonging to various taxonomic orders, as well as examples of 250-million-year-old limestone and 220-million-year-old fossilized trees.
